Class record: Yume Otoshi + tanto waza

April 20, 2007

Thursday, April 12th 2007:

Yume Otoshi is the 3rd technique from the Kukishin Dakentaijutsu Shoden Gata. It starts off with uke puncing form the left hand – as aspect of Kukishin kata that has its own tale to tell if you consider where the school comes from.

This kata continues the idea of breaking the attackers kamae with tori’s footwork and redirection of the uke’s balance. It’s aided by a particular strike and the henka we did made use of the footwork, the breaking of the kamae and different striking aspects. The whole thing could be seen as a type of gyaku waza too and in the end we applied different versions of the Oni Kudaki gyaku waza to the movement. We had a look at some sneaky tanto (dagger) henka and because a jutte(truncheon) was near at hand, this found its own uses too.

Next class : Saturday 11am-1pm Bring your swords!
