Annual Hombu fees are now due for 2008

December 14, 2007

Taken from Alex’s post on the forum. I left out actual figures, as this blog is more public and you should know anyway.

Membership fees to the Bujinkan Hombu this January.

Annual Membership to the Bujinkan Hombu Dojo in Japan are due. For this, you will receive a membership card recognized internationally as well as automatic membership of the Bujinkan Meehan Dojo. As a member of the Bujinkan Dojo, you may also train in any Bujinkan branch anywhere in the world.

In addition to this charge, I also levy a charge of a small amount on each student to cover insurance costs, a couple of bottles of heating gas in the winter, one-off maintenance costs such as water rates, tea and rice crackers and sundry other expenses that show up during the year.

So to reiterate, the annual membership fee for those training in my dojo for 2008 is payable before I go to Japan on January 10th. This fee must be payed by this date, or an arrangement made to defer payment.

(This is an obligatory fee – for example, new members that join the dojo after the beginning of the year are charged this fee in proportion to how much of the year remains.)

Those who have been graded recently must also pay a grading fee for each grade. For this, you will receive a rank license (known as a menjo) from Japan, stamped and signed by the Soke of our art, Masaaki Hatsumi.

I’m aware that Christmas is a financially trying time for everyone, so if you genuinely can’t afford to pay for membership or have been recently awarded a rank but would like to defer paying the associated fee until the next batch of menjo are ordered later in the year, you may do so on the condition that you approach me to formalise this understanding.

Your status within the Bujinkan is of course your responsibility so if you have been awarded a rank and don’t organise the certificate to go with it, it will be presumed that you don’t want the new rank, and so it will be forfeited.

Thanks everyone, and here’s to a great Christmas 07 and an even better new year in 2008!
